The Secret to Success

Just Positive Thinking Won’t Attract All You Want

Has any one heard of the thought-feeling-action pyramid?   It’s the basis behind the movie “The Secret” and the book “Science of Getting Rich”.  It is a simple as your thoughts generate feelings and the feelings generate action.  This is the formula:

 Thoughts + Feelings + Action = Results.

success with weight lossLet me give you an example.  I need to lose 20 lbs, okay maybe 30 lbs. So I hold an image or thought that I need to lose 30 lbs.  My thoughts turn into feelings.  My first feeling was looking back at some pictures when I weighted 30 lbs less and enjoyed the experience of looking slim, having compliments, and wearing slim clothes.  Of course, the side benefit was a healthier me.  Notice that I’m focusing on the good feelings.  I don’t focus on how I feel right now about buying pants in a bigger size or how I get tired out when helping our future son-in-law build his house.  I focus on the positive feelings that I really want to experience.   I also remembered when I actually took care of myself I had a can-do attitude. Nothing could stop me.  These are all feelings.  Wow!   I’m excited already.

If I stopped with feelings, I’d have only completed two sides of the triangle.  As I noted above, I’ve created the excitement but if I don’t take action nothing will happen.  I can wish and dream all I want, but without action it only stays as a thought and a feeling. Unfortunately, this is where most people stop.  To lose the pounds I need to take action.  To keep myself motivated I need to revisit the triangle over and over until I create momentum.  I need to visualize myself 30 lbs less.  I need to see me in those slim clothes.  I need to workout and eat less.  Without completing the triangle your pyramid will fall quickly.

And I’ll keep you posted on how those 20 – well, maybe 30 – pounds are coming along.
