In The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace Wattles says that location may have some effect on your success. He stated that you wouldn't want to open up a shop in the middle of the Sahara and expect to do great business.
Wattles Is Behind the Times
Wallace Wattles wrote his book in 1910. He did not live in a world of electricity, automobiles, planes, cell phones, radio and internet. Foot traffic, postal service, and newspapers were the main means of connecting with customers. Sears and Roebuck took a radical step entirely out of the box some years before and began a catalog mail order business where anything in their inventory, including a house, could be shipped to the customer. The world was made up of isolated units rather than one world of commerce and communication.
Keeping Up with the Times
Location, location, location, the realtor's mantra, isn't entirely true nowadays when it comes to business. Las Vegas sprang up in the middle of nowhere. Today in Saudi Arabia they actually have snow skiing and huge malls in the desert.
With Internet service you can market to the world. We live in a tiny town in a corner of the United States, but it is such a small world today. There are several successful businesses that ship nationally and internationally from here, including the largest independent reed maker in the U.S.
Who would have thought that within the first week of starting, we'd have people viewing this blog from Auckland, Shanghai and all over Europe? We speak regularly to a friend we met over the Internet in Australia.
Goal Setting with a Plan
Phones, internet, faxes, overnight delivery this is the world we live in today. When you start planning to accomplish your dream, think about all of the possibilities available to you. You may find that the scope of your goals is limited only by your imagination. Today the world is within our grasp – who knows, it may be outer space next.
